CNC design · CAM · machine control

From sketch to sawdust in one browser tab.

MeldCNC is the complete workflow for hobby CNC routers. Draw or import a design, pick your bits, watch the carve in 3D, then send it straight to your machine over USB. Nothing to install.

  • 18 FoxAlien machine profiles
  • GRBL G-code, arcs included
  • USB machine control straight from the browser

How it works

Four steps from idea to finished part.

Every step lives in the same project, so a change to the design flows straight through to toolpaths, simulation and the machine.

  1. 01

    Design

Draw shapes, paths and text, or drop in an SVG, DXF, photo or STL. Snapping, rulers and undo work the way you expect.

    Oak · 300 × 200 × 18 mm
  2. 02

    Assign cuts

Choose outline, fill, V-carve, drill or 3D for each object. Feeds and speeds come from your bit, material and spindle.

    Fill · 3 mm deep · Ø6 flat
  3. 03

    Simulate

Generate toolpaths and watch the material come away in 3D, with a time estimate for every bit before you touch the machine.

    2 stages · ≈ 18 min
  4. 04

    Carve

Send the job to your router over USB, or download the .nc file. The job pauses for each bit change and waits for you.

    Stage 2 · change to 60° V-bit

Features

A full CAM toolbox, without the learning curve.

The operations of professional CAM, arranged so a first-time CNC owner can use them and an experienced one isn’t held back.

Every cut you need

From simple outlines to V-carved inlays and 3D reliefs, all generated in the background while you keep working.

  • Outline inside / outside / on
  • Fill: offset, raster, adaptive
  • Drill: peck & helical
  • Engrave
  • V-carve
  • Flat-bottom V-carve
  • V-carve inlays
  • 3D relief: rough + finish
  • Tabs
  • Dogbones & T-bones
  • Ramped plunges
  • Rough + detail passes
  • Large-material tiling

Feeds and speeds from physics

A built-in engine works out RPM, feed, depth and stepover from chip load, spindle power and tool deflection, for your exact bit, material and machine.

Design tools that feel familiar

  • Shapes, pen and bezier paths
  • Text in 18 fonts, text on an arc
  • Icon library and parametric apps: boxes, gears, puzzles, grids
  • Boolean ops, offset, align & distribute
  • Snapping, rulers, mm or inches

Bring your own files

  • SVG
  • DXF
  • PNG / JPG trace
  • STL
  • Grayscale 3D
  • G-code

Out comes GRBL G-code with arc fitting: one file per bit, or one file with tool-change pauses.

Projects that follow you

Autosave to the cloud with thumbnails, a stored copy of every export, and your own library of bits, materials and machines on any computer.

Ease of use

Sensible defaults. Warnings before mistakes.

MeldCNC fills in the settings a beginner doesn’t know yet and flags the ones that could break a bit.

  • Ready to cut on the first click

New shapes get a 3 mm fill, text a 2 mm fill and lines an on-path outline. Change any of it later.

  • Checks that know your machine

You get a warning when a cut is deeper than the bit can reach, a shank won’t fit the collet, or the design is bigger than the work area. Oversized work is tiled for you.

  • Nothing is lost

200 steps of undo, autosave every few seconds, and a conflict warning if the project was changed on another computer.

  • Your units, your origin

Work in millimetres or inches and set the work origin at any corner or the centre, with Z zero on the stock top or the spoilboard.

Machine control

Plug in the USB cable. Press Start.

A complete G-code sender runs in the same browser tab. No separate program, no copying files onto a stick.

  • Tool changes that wait for you. The job stops, turns the spindle off and tells you which bit to fit.
  • Probe Z with the touch plate. Two-speed probing sets zero from the plate thickness.
  • Jog, zero, home, override. Feed, rapid and spindle overrides work mid-job.
  • Recover from a broken bit. Start from any line; units, spindle and position are restored first.
  • Dry-run a file in GRBL check mode, or practise on the built-in machine simulator.

Machine control uses Web Serial in Chrome, Edge or Opera on desktop. Your machine’s data never leaves your computer.

Supported machines

Built around FoxAlien. Open to every GRBL router.

Pick your model and MeldCNC knows its travel, speed limits, rigidity and spindle options. Anything else running GRBL 1.1 or grblHAL works with a custom profile you set up in a minute.

Another brand?

Create a profile with your travel, feed limits and spindle. Any controller that speaks GRBL 1.1 or grblHAL over USB works with the sender.

Rotary is next

Support for FoxAlien’s rotary kits is on the roadmap: wrapped carving on the Y output first, then a true A axis for machines that have the port.

FAQ

Questions before your first cut.

Can’t find your answer? Get in touch.

Do I need to install anything?

No. MeldCNC runs in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari on Windows, macOS, Linux or ChromeOS. Heavy work like toolpath generation runs in the background, so the editor stays responsive.

Which browsers can drive my machine?

Machine control uses the Web Serial API, available in Chrome, Edge and Opera on desktop computers. In other browsers, download the .nc file and run it with your usual sender.

My router isn’t a FoxAlien. Will it work?

Yes, if it runs GRBL 1.1 or grblHAL. Create a machine profile with its travel, feed limits and spindle, and both the G-code output and the sender work with it.

Is it safe to let a browser run my machine?

The sender keeps GRBL’s buffer full without overflowing it, stops a job with a controlled feed hold before resetting, and pauses on any controller error. You should still stay next to the machine, use its emergency stop, and wear eye and ear protection.

Can I use my designs commercially?

Your designs are always yours. The Hobby plan is for personal use; to sell what you make with MeldCNC, choose Maker (one person) or Workshop (a team).

How does yearly billing work?

Pay for twelve months up front and get 10 % off: Maker is $270 a year instead of $300, Workshop $648 instead of $720. You can switch between monthly and yearly at the next renewal.

What happens to my projects if I downgrade?

Nothing is deleted. Projects beyond the Hobby limit become read-only, and you can still open, simulate and export them.

Do you support 4-axis or rotary work?

Not yet. Rotary carving for FoxAlien’s rotary kits is on the roadmap, and Workshop customers get early access.

Your first carve is closer than you think.

Create a free account, draw a shape and watch the simulation. It takes about five minutes.
